Classical Network Thanks Listeners After Fundraiser

People of Earth! Thank you for supporting The Classical Network!

We wrapped up our autumn fundraiser last night with the conclusion of “Picture Perfect.” It was particularly gratifying that we continued to receive donations through the 6:00 hour, even as I buffeted our loyal listeners with Martian heat rays and invasion anxiety courtesy of music from “The War of the Worlds” (1953), “War of the Worlds” (2005), “Rocketship X-M,” “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” “Ed Wood,” and “The Thing from Another World.” Unfortunately, since this week’s show was done live, it has not been preserved as a webcast. (That’s another way of saying I forgot to record it.)

Be that as it may, despite the heroic efforts of those of you who contributed, we came up somewhat short of our projected goal of $65,000. As I said, the drive is over, but we are still hoping to fulfill our budgetary requirements by the end of the month. Therefore, you may hear us “soft pitching” between now and then, giving the phone number and working some of the remaining thank you gifts into our playlists, but no more extended stretches of us jabbering on and asking you to give. If you think we do an especially fine job leading up to Hallowe’en, why not toss us a bone or two?

We’ll still be happy to take your donation by phone during regular weekday business hours, at 1-888-232-1212, and of course you are free to donate anytime, around the clock, at wwfm.org.

Again, thank you for your support. We at WWFM – The Classical Network are here to serve you!

Debussy & Classical Music Fundraiser on WWFM

Claude Debussy’s “Rondes de printemps” has kicked off the second day of our three-day fundraiser on The Classical Network.

It doesn’t matter what time of year it is. Great music has the power to transport, uplift, and, above all, enrich the quality of our lives. Thanks to dedicated and generous listeners just like you, musique de Debussy et ses amis is always in season.

Unfortunately, there is no Maginot Line to keep classical music free. Please make a donation now at 1-888-232-1212 or online at wwfm.org. A steady diet of vin rouge et musique classique has been proven to lead to longer life and plenty of l’amour. Even if it hasn’t, at least you’ll have had a good time, and with plenty of bon goût.

Hear the difference! And merci beaucoup for supporting WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org.

    WWFM End-of-Year Fundraiser On Now

This is it! Our end-of-the-fiscal year fundraiser is underway! Thrill to a different programming focus every day this week – women in music, for example, and American music, and something we’re calling “We Wednesday” – as together we work to shore up the station’s finances. We need your help so that we can continue to do what it is we do so well, undiminished. We’ll dazzle the ear, even as we celebrate our members, partners, and community.

Make your donation now at 1-888-232-1212 or online at wwfm.org. We’re willing to perform quadruple somersaults in order to keep bringing you the music you love. But we’re counting on you to be there for us. The spangled and leotarded staff of WWFM – The Classical Network thanks you for your support!

  • Bach 500 Support Classical Music & Skip the Fundraiser

Bach 500 Support Classical Music & Skip the Fundraiser

Perhaps you’re a little tired of hearing about Bach by now.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, The Classical Network is heading into the homestretch on its annual “Bach 500.” In case you haven’t caught any of the pitches over the past weeks, if we can persuade 500 listeners to donate to the station IN ANY AMOUNT, we will cancel the on-air fundraiser we’ve got planned for March 21st – Bach’s birthday – and instead kick back and enjoy a celebratory day of just Bach’s music.

Have you become one of the 500 yet? It doesn’t take much. Kick in ten or twenty bucks, and you’ll be counted toward the total. Of course, if you can go higher, that’s even better! Do it now, at our website, wwfm.org (look under the membership thermometer at the right of the page), or call during regular business hours at 1-888-232-1212.

To get you in the spirit, among the featured recordings I’ve selected for today’s afternoon commute, from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT, will be some Bach-related music by Max Reger and a characteristically superb performance of some Bach keyboard music by the great Romanian pianist Dinu Lipatti.

By all means, enjoy these musical offerings, but trust me when I say they will be that much more enjoyable once you’ve made the commitment to become one of the 500. Thank you for your support of WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org!

    Classical Music Friendship WPRB Fundraiser

When Classical Discoveries’ Marvin Rosen bought a prized Richard Arnell disc out from under me at Princeton Record Exchange, who knew that it would lead to such a rewarding musical friendship. Marvin has since more than made up for that early indiscretion and not only showered me with his duplicates (including a few of the Richard Arnell symphonies), but he has volunteered to help me out at WPRB on more than one occasion. Tomorrow will be one of those.

I hope you’ll join us, as Marvin will be my copilot. We’ll be playing selections from an assortment of “thank you” gifts, personally selected by me, of music by Aaron Copland, Lou Harrison, Zoltán Kodály, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Steven Mackey, Miklós Rózsa, Florent Schmitt, and Marcel Tyberg. In addition, there will be more Reinhold Gliere than might comfortably be digested. Laugh along, as we confuse the telephone volunteers by offering music by both E.J. Moeran and Robert Moran.

It’s all part of the fun, as we attempt to raise funds, on WPRB 103.3 FM and at wprb.com. Get ready to pad out your CD collection, tomorrow morning between 6 and 11 ET, as we offer music from George Perle to Jerome Kern, on Classic Ross Amico.
