  • WWFM’s Top Classical Music Countdown

    WWFM’s Top Classical Music Countdown

The tumblers fall into place, the planets align. We are on the verge of achieving total syzygy.

This is it – the final day of The Classical Network’s “Play It Again” personal playlist membership campaign. From the 88 playlists (1,100 entries) submitted by WWFM hosts, partners, and listeners, these are the pieces of music that received the most votes. If you were to translate it into a Venn diagram, the “union” would be enormous.

We already know the “bottom five” of the top 40, as we wrapped up yesterday afternoon with music from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story” (#40), Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 (#39), Maurice Ravel’s “Daphnis et Chloe” (#38), Igor Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” (#37), and Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C major (#36). We’ve just begun today’s final countdown with Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 (#35).

Keep in mind that this our earnest attempt to engage you in end-of-the-fiscal-year fundraising. Whether you participated in this personal playlist project, or you are someone who enjoys the stimulating mix of music we present each and every day, it’s up you, as a listener, whether or not you choose to support it. We hope that you will be moved to do so.

Whether it be $200 or $20, your contribution goes directly into our fuel tank. We can only travel as far as our listeners allow. Won’t you be one of those who share our passion and commitment? Join us today at 1-888-232-1212, or online at wwfm.org.

Together we reach for the stars, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT. Fill your Friday with glorious music beloved by us all, on WWFM – The Classical Network.

  • Bach 500 Donations Needed Support Classical Music

Bach 500 Donations Needed Support Classical Music

Johann Sebastian Bach’s two wives may have borne him twenty children; but their pains were as nothing next to the protracted labor of this year’s Bach 500. We are still pushing – in part because of last week’s snowstorm, which delayed fundraising – toward our ultimate goal of 500 donations.

If 500 listeners to The Classical Network step up and contribute in any amount, we will stop with the solicitations and return to uninterrupted music. We are now to the point that we need just a little over 60 donations to wrap up this campaign. For you, it will mean less talk and more music; for us, it will mean $15,000 in challenge money for the station.

Have you become one of the 500? Your contribution doesn’t have to break the bank. $10 or $20 counts as much as $100 or $200 toward the quota. Of course, we always hope you can be as generous as you can. Do it today at our website, wwfm.org – click on “donate now,” beneath the membership thermometer – or call 1-888-232-1212.

I’d be especially appreciative if we could reach the 500 BEFORE I have to go on the air today. Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy just music, from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT? I think so. You can help make it happen. Thank you for your support of WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org.

  • Bach Birthday Bash & 500 Supporter Challenge

Bach Birthday Bash & 500 Supporter Challenge

All right, the college had a delayed opening this morning on account of yesterday’s snowfall, but today is the day! Join us for a belated birthday bash for Johann Sebastian Bach.

It will be all-Bach for the remainder of the day, with occasional pauses for us to remind you that we are trying to wrap up our Bach 500 challenge. We’re looking for 500 of you to step up and make a contribution in any amount. Once we reach 500 contributions, we cease our fundraising, and we can all just kick back and enjoy Bach’s music. We’re just about halfway there. Keep The Classical Network strong with your contribution!

Head over to the website, wwfm.org, and click on the “donate now” tab over to the right of the screen, beneath the membership thermometer. The thermometer is also a handy way for you to track our progress. Make that mercury rise by contributing online, or call us at 1-888-232-1212.

Thank you for your support of WWFM – The Classical Network. It’s because of the generosity of listeners just like you that we’ll be able to continue to bring Bach to the future.

Free Radio vs Soviet Russia Support WPRB

In America, you turn on radio. In Soviet Russia, radio turns on you!

As we listen to this fascinating music by artists who were used and abused under the Soviet system, consider how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy the kind of freedom represented by independent radio. WPRB 103.3 FM is in the final days of its “silent drive.” That means we don’t take up too much air time with repetitive pitches for your decadent capital. We just put the message out there a few times a shift and leave it to you to do what you feel is right.

If you enjoy the mix of unusual and neglected repertoire, and you find the personalized stamp on the programming a positive contribution to your day; and if you enjoy the passion and commitment of the hosts, who play all kinds of music – truly something to suit every immoral Western tendency – I hope you will find it in your heart and in your budget to support us.

WPRB is the radio station of Princeton University. However, we are independently owned and funded. That means we rely on the generosity of listeners just like you.

Don’t wait for Moose and Squirrel to do it for you. Please contribute today – and maybe pick up a t-shirt – at http://wprb.com/wprb-fundraising-drive-fall-2017/. WPRB’s silent drive ends tomorrow, November 17.

Then kick back and enjoy your petty bourgeois turpitude, until 11:00 EST, as we continue to mark the centenary of the Russian Revolution, on Classic Ross Amico.

While we’re all enjoying this morning’s salute to elusive autumn on Classic Ross Amico, I thought I would offer a gentle reminder that the music you hear on WPRB 103.3 FM is made possible thanks to listener contributions. True, we are the radio station of Princeton University, but we are independently owned and funded. It’s what’s called a paradox.

Now, we’re not going to hammer you with incessant pitches for your cash with a little music sandwiched in between. This is a “silent drive.” We’re just putting it out there and leaving it up to you to follow your conscience and accept responsibility. The sad fact of the matter is that many people listen, but very few give. I believe the percentage is something like one in ten.

I know that everyone is clamoring for you to give this time of year. But even if it’s only a few bucks, we’ll take it. In fact, when you follow the link, I think you’ll notice that the thank you gifts are tailored to encourage donations at all levels. You’ll find some updates about the station and get a glimpse of the swag by going here:

Take the plunge into autumn until 11:00 this morning. Enjoy the music knowing that you are instrumental in keeping it going. Thank you in advance for your tax-deductible contribution to WPRB. When you get to the comments section, don’t forget to mention your fondness for the hard-working Classic Ross Amico!
