Support Classical Music Radio WWFM Needs You

If you contributed to The Classical Network this week during our end-of-the-fiscal-year membership campaign, thank you so much for your support. We deeply appreciate your commitment to and concern for maintaining the best in classical music programming for our community and beyond, in a world where the kind of quality and variety we strive for is increasingly hard to find.

Unfortunately, as of 6 p.m. Friday – the end of our on-air fundraising – we came up considerably short of our goal. We’ll see what comes in over the weekend, in the form of electronic contributions, but talk around the station is that cuts will have to be made. That doesn’t mean we’ll be going anywhere, but some of the shows may have to be put on hiatus. In a worst case scenario, as happened a few years ago, local hosts could be removed from the air waves until we are able to balance our budget. (I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but I speak from experience when I say that it has been done!)

The fiscal year does not end until midnight, the morning of July 1. That means anything you contribute through the time Sunday rolls into Monday will count toward our bottom line. If you haven’t gotten around to doing so, I hope you will extend a hand to help us down from the scaffold in the form of a financial contribution at our website, wwfm.org. Click on the donate tab at the top of the page.

We remain your friends in classical music radio. Thank you for your steadfast support of WWFM – The Classical Network.

WWFM Bach 500 Campaign Nears Goal Donate Now

It’s a time of day when you’re probably thinking more about frittatas than cantatas. But before you head out for lunch, please take just a moment to provide a little nourishment for WWFM.

We are within the final 200 donations of our Bach 500 campaign. If you have not contributed, or if you are in a position to make an additional gift, your donation now will count toward the 500 we need in order to unlock the scrumptious Bach Pot.

YOU decide the amount that is right for you. It doesn’t matter how much you give; it just matters that we reach the quota: 500 contributions is the combination that will unlock our Bach Pot, which contains over $14,000. Once that happens, this campaign is at an end, and the Bach jukebox kicks into overdrive for the rest of the afternoon. Click on “donate” at wwfm.org, or call us at 1-888-232-1212.

You feed the body, and we’ll take care of the spirit – with the assistance of Johann Sebastian Bach, on his birthday. Enjoy a Bach’s lunch on WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org. Thank you for your generous support!

A good record store is hard to find these days, but Bach is yours at the touch of a button or the click of a mouse. Please support us in our quest for the “Bach 500.” We’re looking for your donation – in any amount – right now. Once we reach 500 listener contributions, we’ll be able to unlock the Bach Pot to the tune of $14,000 and bask in the glorious music of Johann Sebastian Bach, unencumbered by fundraising, for the rest of the day. Click on “donate” at wwfm.org, or call us at 1-888-232-1212. Thank you for your generous support of WWFM – The Classical Network. With your help, we’ll be Bach!

  • WWFM Thanks You for “Play It Again” Success!

WWFM Thanks You for “Play It Again” Success!

    THANK YOU!

Radio fundraising drives are such that as soon as we cross the finish line, we all basically stagger away, our brains like skillets full of fried eggs. So it is only at the end of an intervening weekend that I get around to thanking you for participating in WWFM’s “Play It Again” personal playlist campaign.

You’ll recall that this was structured so that favorites of WWFM listeners and partners were incorporated into the station’s programming. The delightfully varied choices informed the week’s playlists, culminating in a top-40 countdown with, granted, many (though not all) of the usual suspects, though ranked in an often surprising order of popularity.

You’ll find the final top-40 posted on the station’s Facebook page, by following the link:

The results were compiled from 88 playlists – 1,100 entries. Understandably, with so many nominations, not everything made it to the air.

Therefore, I thought I’d do a little mopping up during my shifts this week, and broadcast some of the music we didn’t get around to playing. Not to worry, I won’t be fundraising, beyond perhaps an occasional “thank you” during which I may mention the continuing option of supporting us at our website, wwfm.org. But really it is intended as a show of thanks to everyone who participated, and a celebration, of sorts, of the diversity of the choices. Also, it makes my job as a host and programmer very easy.

I’m sorry to say, we did come up a little short of our goal, which means we will have to come back with our hats in our hands at the end of June, so that we can collect the extra money we need in order to close out the fiscal year (which ends at 11:59 p.m. on June 30) in the black.

For now, let’s all just kick back and take a hard-earned break and enjoy the music. I’ll be playing complete pieces – no more excerpts or individual movements – from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT, on WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org.

Again, thank you for your support!

  • Feather Our Nest Support Independent Radio!

Feather Our Nest Support Independent Radio!

Emily Dickinson wrote, “Hope is the thing with feathers.” That said, it’s always good to have cash.

As we enjoy this program of music inspired by birds this morning, on Classic Ross Amico, consider making a contribution to the radio station that makes it possible. Sure, I bring all my own music, and I’m the one that staggers out of bed at 4:00 in the morning to trot through the cold to bring you a world of entertainment (some of it unintentional, I’m sure). But I couldn’t do it without the medium of radio. And not every radio station would allow me to do what I do on WPRB. Very few would, as a matter of fact.

If you enjoy the mix of unusual and neglected repertoire, and you find the personalized stamp on the programming a positive contribution to your day; and if you enjoy the passion and commitment of my colleagues, who play all kinds of music (truthfully, you never know what you’re going to get here), please support us.

WPRB is in the middle of its “silent drive.” That means we don’t clutter up the air waves with too many on-air pitches. We just put it out there once in a while and leave it to you to follow your conscience. WPRB is the radio station of Princeton University. However, we are independently owned and funded. That means we rely on the generosity of folks just like you.

Many independent radio stations have gone south, and not just for the winter. So while you’re enjoying the bird music this morning until 11:00 EST, won’t you consider feathering our nest? Keep us fortified with your donation now at http://wprb.com/wprb-fundraising-drive-fall-2017/

On behalf of WPRB 103.3 FM and wprb.com, I thank you!
