    Fantastic Voyage Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner

Between my being without electricity and Roy being without internet, this week has truly been a fantastic voyage. It couldn’t be more appropriate, then, that we’ll talk about “Fantastic Voyage” (1966), on the next “Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.”

“Fantastic Voyage,” of course, is the ultimate exploration of “inner space” – the recesses of the human body, as experienced from the viewpoint of a corpuscle – a perspective never witnessed before. A miniaturized Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Arthur Kennedy, and Donald Pleasence embark on a trippy submarine trek through the heart and lungs to perform literal micro-surgery on the injured brain of a defecting scientist. They have exactly one hour to do so, before they begin to grow!

Get ready for some really small talk, about “Fantastic Voyage,” on “Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner,” to be live-streamed on Facebook this Friday evening at 7:00 EDT!

    Forbidden Planet Sci-Fi Crossover Tonight

    Gams and robots!

Roy and I will be joined by Marybeth and Michael, from SciFi Distilled, for a special crossover episode, on which we’ll explore “Forbidden Planet.” 2,000 centuries of Krell civilization, down the drain!

The show will be live-streamed on Facebook tonight at 7:00 EDT on Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.

    Beware Monsters from the Id!

  • Sci-Fi Nerds Unite Spielberg & Forbidden Planet

Reuniting with Roy and my cousin Joe was definitely a close encounter of the nerd kind. Here, we jawbone about Steven Spielberg’s sublime extraterrestrial essay, on last night’s “Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.”

Enjoy a double-dollop this weekend. Roy and I will be joined by Marybeth and Mike of SciFi Distilled, for a discussion about the 1956 classic “Forbidden Planet.” Robby the Robot meets Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” Beware monsters from the id!

It will be a tempest in a tea pot, and we’ll all be high on rocket fuel. Join us for the Facebook live-stream, this Sunday night at 7:00 EDT.

  • Westworld 1973 Roy’s Sci-Fi Rewind

Just in case you happened to miss Roy and my musings on “Westworld” (1973), Michael Crichton’s animatronic amusement resort run amok, here it is again for your Saturday morning delectation.

Don’t forget, tomorrow night, Roy will welcome special guest Jimmi Simpson, who plays Will on the current HBO revival of “Westworld.”

“Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner” streams on Facebook every Friday and Sunday evening at 7:00 EDT.

Thanks again, Roy, for having me back!

  • Westworld Weekend on Roy’s Sci-Fi Corner

Westworld Weekend on Roy’s Sci-Fi Corner

It’s wagons west this weekend, on “Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.”

Delos Inc. invites you to visit Westworld, where all your fantasies are brought vividly to life. The experience promises to be both invigorating and rejuvenating – that is, until Yul Brynner goes rogue!

Roy Bjellquist and I will discuss Michael Crichton’s 1973 feature film debut, which explores the consequences of corporate recklessness and technology run amok. Of course, Crichton would later revisit the hazards of malfunctioning sci-fi amusements when he came to write “Jurassic Park.”

I hope you’ll join us for this live-stream analysis of “Westworld,” on Facebook, this Friday evening at 7:00 EDT.

Then Roy will ride solo, as he welcomes special guest Jimmi Simpson, who plays Will on the current HBO revival of “Westworld.” At three seasons and counting, “Westworld” in its television iteration has had more freedom to plumb deep into the story’s ethical and philosophical implications.

Simpson has also appeared on the sci-fi anthology series “Black Mirror” and in the most recent incarnation of “The Twilight Zone.” Roy and Jimmi will chat this Sunday evening at 7:00 EDT.

Enjoy both “Westworld” live-streams on the Facebook page of “Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.”
