  • Sci-Fi Heroes Postponed Tune in to Film Music

    The heroes are on hold!

Due to forces beyond our control (groundhogs munching on the power cables?), Roy and I regret to have to postpone our parallel countdown of favorite “Heroes of Sci-Fi.”

However, that frees up your evening so that you can enjoy music from semi-documentaries on my film music show, “Picture Perfect,” courtesy of composers Aaron Copland (“The Cummington Story”), Virgil Thomson (the Pulitzer Prize winning “Louisiana Story”), Ulysses Kay (“The Quiet One”), and Morton Gould (“Windjammer”). I’ll be jamming on KWAX, the radio station of the University of Oregon, tonight at 8:00 EST/5:00 PST.

    Stream it here:

Then keep watching the skies for a make-up date for Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner. We can’t wait to compare our lists of sci-fi and fantasy heroes and to read and share your comments. It’s guaranteed to be an “off” night, whenever it is! In the meantime, have a relaxing evening, and thank you for your understanding!

    Spock’s Brain Anniversary Livestream Tonight!

Don’t let the happy faces fool you. Roy and I return tonight to celebrate three years of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner, with a discussion of “Spock’s Brain.” One the looniest episodes of the original “Star Trek” television series, once seen it’s not easily forgotten. The Laurel and Hardy of sci-fi reunite for another gold-plated bull session. Make the trek to the comments section, when we livestream on Facebook, YouTube, etc., at a special day and time, this Thursday evening at 7:00 EDT!

  • Spock’s Brain Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner Anniversary

    Spock’s Brain Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner Anniversary

    How to celebrate three years of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner? It’s a no-brainer.

We’ll discuss the third season opener of “Star Trek,” the original series: Captain Kirk and crew scramble to recover their unflappable first officer’s noodle in “Spock’s Brain” (1968).

Widely reviled as one of the worst “Star Trek” episodes ever made, the subject is guaranteed to spark a lively conversation, with plenty of digressions and not a few laughs.

Get ready for another year of mindless chatter, as Roy and I put our heads together for “Spock’s Brain.” Your gray matter is required in the comments section, when we livestream on Facebook, YouTube, etc., at a special time, THIS MONDAY EVENING AT 7:00 EDT!

  • “Aliens” Stream Postponed Sci-Fi Corner

    “Aliens” Stream Postponed Sci-Fi Corner

Nothing has burst out of my chest, but in light of all the stuff pouring out of my face, I hope you’ll understand why I requested a postponement of our discussion of “Aliens” (1986), originally scheduled to take place tonight on Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner, to our usual time of FRIDAY EVENING AT 7:30 EST. See you then, when we livestream on Facebook, YouTube, etc.

In the meantime, I appreciate everyone’s well-wishes, but please understand if I’m not up to chatting while I’m under the weather! Returning to stasis now.

  • Laryngitis & Leonard Nimoy Sci-Fi Chat

Laryngitis & Leonard Nimoy Sci-Fi Chat

For the second time in the past few weeks, I’ve had some kind of throat ailment. It starts out as a sore throat a couple of mornings, and then it never really develops into anything. Just a dry cough, periodically, and even that’s not consistent.

After last Friday’s Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner, I woke up Saturday with laryngitis, and every day since I have risked going raspy. In the mornings, I could be the next basso superstar. Great while singing in the shower, maybe, but hardly worth the dry throat the rest of the day.

It’s fortunate, then, that Roy will have a special one-on-one this evening with Bonnie Moss, who will recall her special friendship with actor Leonard Nimoy. I’ll take the rest of the weekend to recuperate and we’ll reconvene on Sunday to flash our teeth in a conversation about the first of the “Alien” sequels – James Cameron’s “Aliens” (1986).

Until then, I leave you in Roy’s very capable hands (undoubtedly giving the Vulcan salute). Share your extraterrestrial observations in the comments section when they – and then we – livestream on Facebook, YouTube, etc., this Friday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 EST!
