WWFM Classical Music Home During Challenging Times

At a time when mobility has been limited for a great many of us, music is still common ground. It unites us, it comforts us, and it creates a sense of home. We at The Classical Network have persevered during these challenging times in doing our part to maintain an environment of stability and cheer.

WWFM is home to some of your favorite specialty shows: “The Dress Circle,” “The Piano Matters,” “Sounds Choral,” “Between the Keys,” “The Sunday Opera,” “Bach at One,” “The Lyric Stage,” “Half Past,” “Curtis Calls,” “Inside Music,” “Cadenza,” “A Tempo,” and of course “Picture Perfect” and “The Lost Chord.” These are all still produced, more or less, in-house.

For some of us, this home has been a virtual one since the arrival of COVID, but we’ve all worked hard to see to it that classical music programing remains available to you in a 24/7 format. Please help support it. Call us today at 1-888-232-1212, or make a donation online at wwfm.org.

There’s no place like music. From our home to yours, thank you for your support of WWFM – The Classical Network!

  • Last Day to Support Classical Music on WWFM!

Last Day to Support Classical Music on WWFM!

Today’s the day! The final day of our membership campaign, and the last day of our fiscal year!

We know that, as a devoted listener of The Classical Network, you are passionate about the variety of music we present. This is music that resonates, whether from down the centuries or across the globe – enduring classics, presented alongside the new or unusual, in live concerts and superior recordings made by the world’s great orchestras or rising stars in the performing arts. The common thread is musicmaking of great beauty and humanity.

It goes without saying that you want us to continue doing what we do, that you want us to succeed. As a committed listener, naturally you are deeply invested in The Classical Network and everything we do to enhance the quality of your days – the daily comfort, reflection, insight, and elevation, inspired by our creative playlists, concert broadcasts, artist interviews, homegrown specialty shows, and hand-in-glove relationship with the local arts community.

WWFM is a virtual meeting place for the musical arts in central New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. But it is a meeting place that is only as open and welcoming as our listener-members allow. Your contribution at this time will have a powerful impact on what next year’s budget will look like and how much grant money we are able to secure.

A gratifying number of you have already messaged me the past couple of days to let me know that you have already stepped up. Thank you so much for your support! If you haven’t done so yet, please consider making a donation now. WWFM hosts and volunteers will be on hand until 7:00 this evening, at 1-888-232-1212.

If the time gets away from you, and suddenly it’s 8, remember, you can donate at our website right up until 11:59 p.m. and still have it count toward our goal. But at midnight, we turn into a pumpkin!

Be a fairy godparent and a patron of WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org today! We cannot thank you enough for doing your part in sustaining the world’s great music on the radio. We could not do it without you!

    Give, Bessie, give!

    The Classical Network needs nourishment!

Tomorrow at 11:59 p.m. marks the end of our fiscal year. Under ordinary circumstances, most businesses are humming along in their mid-year groove, and the average worker is thinking about summer vacation. For non-profit organizations such as WWFM, this really is it. Listener contributions at this time have a powerful impact on what next year’s budget will look like and how much grant money we are able to secure.

I know, as a devoted listener who is passionate about classical music, you want us to succeed, but I also know you are deeply invested in what we do – the specialty shows, the live concerts, the artist interviews, the lovingly curated playlists, and the symbiotic relationship with the local arts community. WWFM, as a medium, is in many ways a hub for the musical arts in central New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. That hub is only as vital as we can make it.

Now more than ever, musical artists struggle for exposure, as they seek fresh solutions to unforeseen challenges. Equally, we all crave a sense of connection – an environment of solace and normalcy, as we look to affirm our collective humanity in time of crisis. Maintaining great music on the radio, and keeping it accessible to everyone, not only provides an invaluable platform for musicians, it also serves to enrich our inner lives, and potentially those of anyone out there capable of being touched by it.

We understand that times are tough, and that world events have had an unforeseen impact on just about everyone, but if you are in a position to do so, please do whatever you can so that the hub stays strong. Don’t let the herd run dry.

You provide the milk, and we’ll supply the goodies. Make your donation today at 1-888-232-1212, or contribute online at wwfm.org. Thank you, sincerely, for your support of WWFM – The Classical Network!

  • WWFM’s Corona-Era Fund Drive Needs You

WWFM’s Corona-Era Fund Drive Needs You

During time of COVID, even getting in to the station has been a bit of a challenge. With studios located on the campus of Mercer County Community College, by necessity WWFM has had to abide by college policy. To maintain safety, the campus is open only to “essential personnel” – and even THEY have been strongly encouraged to work remotely, if at all possible.

Needless to say, this makes fundraising kind of a strategic puzzle. But the end of our fiscal year is not getting any farther away, and, after all, necessity is the mother of invention.

Having received special dispensation from the college, The Classical Network will today begin its first corona-era fund drive. WWFM hosts Alice Weiss, David Osenberg, and Michael Kownacky will look to solicit your support, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT, while at same time practicing safe distancing. This will be accomplished by having everyone on microphones, communicating FROM SEPARATE STUDIOS. Furthermore, your calls of support will be answered remotely by WWFM staff.

It goes without saying that this is all very new to us. But the end of the fiscal year waits for no nonprofit! If you enjoy the music, and WWFM is an important part of your life, please do whatever you can to renew your membership, become a new member, or make an additional gift BEFORE JUNE 30th. Our survival, and to what degree we are able to rebuild, depends largely on the dedication and generosity of our listener-members.

If you are in a position to do so, please call today at 1-888-232-1212. Or if you prefer, make your contribution online, anytime:

We realize that things are tight for many, so thank you especially for whatever you can do to support WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org!

  • Catalan Composer Celebrated on The Classical Network

Catalan Composer Celebrated on The Classical Network

Following up on my series of posts about his family’s fascinating bookplates (on February 23, February 27, and March 5), Xavier Montsalvtage finally gets his day. Join me this afternoon on The Classical Network, as I’ll celebrate the great Catalan composer’s birthday with his “Concerto breve.”

We’ll also hear music by three American originals: Henry Cowell, Carl Ruggles, and “The Beethoven of Kentucky” (and one of the founders of the New York Philharmonic), Anthony Philip Heinrich. AND a work for guitar and bandoneón by Argentinian master Astor Piazzolla.

At 6:00, it’s another “Music from Marlboro.” The highlight this evening will be the String Sextet No. 2, by a young and ardent Johannes Brahms.

We’re always passionate about music, from 4 to 7 p.m. EDT, on WWFM – The Classical Network and wwfm.org.
