It wasn’t that great for Napoleon, maybe, but Jonathan the tortoise loves it. Exile on St. Helena is all sun and fresh vegetables for this old codger, who has lived on the island for the past 140 years. From his size, he is thought to have been 50 (the age of a tortoise’s maturity) at the time of his arrival, which would mean he was born around 1832 – THE YEAR BEFORE BRAHMS.

Not only is Jonathan the oldest tortoise in the world, he is also the world’s oldest animal.

Napoleon died on St. Helena in 1831. Missed him by that much.
