Facebook Tagging Issues & Annoying Auto-Replies

Has anyone else had difficulty tagging other pages in their posts? For the past week or so, I have been unable to tag associates, either in a personal or professional capacity. What gives, Facebook?

Also, whenever anybody sends me a private message, Facebook sends out the following, annoying, automated response: “Hi, thanks for contacting us. We’ve received your message and appreciate you reaching out.”

Am I not capable of crafting my own responses? Is this really better than someone having to wait five minutes or an hour or an evening until I get back to them? Personally, I think it’s kind of condescending, to both the recipient and the writer. What, no hold music?

So now, as has so often been the case with Facebook, I have to spend time googling and searching all the functions to see if I can learn how I can “fix” these things.

Facebook… always working hard to make you work harder.

  • Facebook Fail Correcting Composers Photo

    Facebook Fail Correcting Composers Photo

Okay, I admit it. I over-edit my posts. I reread them and alter them until I think they read best. I especially edit them if I happen to notice a factual error.

I was scrolling through some old posts last week, and paused when I came to an amazing photo, taken after a New York Philharmonic concert in 1977, of all the contemporary composers whose works Pierre Boulez programmed during his tenure as music director of the orchestra.

I had previously identified one of them, in the front row, as Hershy Kay, but glancing at it again, I realize, to my embarrassment, that it is actually Ulysses Kay. So even though the post was committed over a year ago (on April 14, 2020), I hit the “edit” option to correct it. And, wouldn’t you know it, the photo disappeared.

You see, it’s one of the quirks of “New Facebook” that when you attempt to edit a post with forwarded content as the image, the image goes away. I’ll never be able to get the photo back on the old post, but since it’s a slow news day, I figured I’d plug it in again today.

I actually discovered it for the first time after it was shared on the Aaron Copland page, from a post by composer Daniel Plante, over at the Pierre Boulez Appreciation Group.

Here are the names of the subjects (hopefully now correct), with Boulez standing in the foreground, proudly displaying his trophies.

First row (left to right): Milton Babbitt, Lucia Dlugoszewski, Ulysses Kay, George Rochberg, and Mario Davidovsky.

Second Row: David Gilbert, Stephen Jablonsky, Jacob Druckman, Roger Sessions, William Schuman, and Aaron Copland.

Third Row: Donald Martino, Donald Harris, Daniel Plante, Morton Gould, Vincent Persichetti, and Roy Harris.

Fourth Row: Charles Wuorinen, Carmen Moore, Sydney Hodkinson, David Del Tredici, Earle Brown, Harley Gaber, Stanley Silverman, John Cage, and Elliott Carter.

It will surprise no one (except me, apparently) that we are living in a disposable world, and that Facebook is no place for perfectionism!

    Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner Episode 100 Delayed?

Is it possible some superior intelligence doesn’t want you to see the 100th episode of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner?

After at least two postponements, a horrific storm ripped through New Jersey last night, slashing the heavens with lightning, amputating limbs, and leaving Roy and I bereft of electricity. Mine was restored, finally, around dawn (too late for a good night’s sleep), but as of this writing, Roy remains powerless.

Be that as it may, we are determined that, after so many delays and setbacks, THE SHOW MUST GO ON. To this end, I’ll be sporting the tie-dye tee, as Roy leeches off the wi-fi of an unnamed neighborhood restaurant.

Tune in for nostalgic highlights! Viewer trivia! Audience participation! Also, my annual, subversive birthday card to Roy!

Marvel at the circles around my eyes, even as Roy runs circles around the suits. Join us in the comments section, or hop on camera and let us know how much you appreciate the show. L’amour the merrier, when we livestream on Facebook, this Sunday evening at 7:00 EDT!

UPDATE: Roy’s electricity is back; mine was out again for half an hour this afternoon. Where this one will land is anyone’s guess!

    Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner Celebrates 100

Tonight, it’s a tribute to endurance and “cama-der-oddity,” as we celebrate the 100th episode of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner.

What began during the pandemic as a lifeline to sanity and community, has become a weekly institution, with classic sci-fi movie and television fans joining us from around the globe – the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, and (most notoriously) Hell, Norway – to weigh in on subjects ranging from “The War of the Worlds” to “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.”

Did you know: I was not actually Roy’s first cohost? Tune in for lots more trivia, hosannas, and audience participation. Highlights will be shared, prizes will be awarded, and my annual birthday card to Roy will be posted.

Put on your monkey suit, get all dolled up, and join us in the comments section. It will be 100 toasts to Roy, when we livestream on Facebook, this Friday evening at 7:00 EDT!

  • Jaws Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner 100th Episode

“Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, and we WILL be open for business!”

With all respect to Murray Hamilton, we’ll be doing no such thing. We hope you’ll be satisfied with this archived conversation, as Roy and I jawbone about “Jaws.”

Next week we’ll mark the 100th episode of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner. Still got a ways to go before we catch The Grateful Dead. It’s customary for Roy to throw open the show on these occasions to audience participation. Details pending, but no doubt it will be a festive one. Hope to see you there, as we livestream on Facebook, next Friday evening at 7:00 EDT!

Until then, have a happy and safe Independence Day! The beaches are open, and people are having a wonderful time.
