  • Moreau Beast Makeup Outer Limits Preview

I had on my best Beast Folk make-up for last night’s exploration of the 1977 film “The Island of Dr. Moreau” – with side commentary on the 1932 and 1996 versions, H.G. Wells’ original novel, and the 1977 Marvel comics adaptation. That’s probably more Moreau than anyone needs to know.

Roy and I will resume this Friday, with a special Fakesgiving discussion of the justifiably-maligned “Star Wars Holiday Special” (1978).

Then on Sunday, Roy will be joined by special guests Dominic Stefano, son of Joseph – creator of the classic television series “The Outer Limits” – and David Rash, whose book, “From the Inner Mind to the Outer Limits… The Outer Limits Scripts of Joseph Stefano Volume One,” will be released in March, with preorders beginning in January.

Tune in and test your limits. Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner is livestreamed on Facebook every Friday and Sunday evening at 7:00 EST.

Island of Dr Moreau Movie Review Mishap

Last week, H.G. Wells’ nightmare vision of vivisection and overweening science, “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” came up against a Friday the 13th in the year of our angry Lord 2020. Predictably, computer and connectivity issues ensued. After a torturous hour of clawing through the innards of Facebook and Zoom, without success, Roy and I had no choice but to reschedule our – ahem – dissection of the 1977 film version until this SUNDAY.

In the interim, I have padded out my knowledge of all things “Moreau,” by rewatching the 1932 version (“Island of Lost Souls” with Charles Laughton), reading Wells’ original novel, and exhuming the Marvel Comics adaptation from my childhood. I’m not sure, however, that even I can bring myself to watch the 1996 version, with Marlon Brando wearing an ice bucket…

TO THE HOUSE PAIN! Leave your comments as we lay down the LAW on the next Facebook livestream of Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner, THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AT 7:00 EST.

There will be no show tonight, because of a scheduling snafu. However, just so you aren’t sent about your weekend with a gigantic hole in your stomach, Roy and I will pop up this evening at 8:00 EST, simply to announce our upcoming HOLIDAY SCHEDULE. Drop by for a hit, and then come back for More(au) on Sunday, if you please.

    HO HO HO!

Are we not men? We are DEVO!

No, wait a minute. That’s something else entirely, though Devo is one of many bands inspired by “The Island of Dr. Moreau.” Roy Bjellquist and I will repeat “the Law,” when we discuss the 1977 film version of the H.G. Wells classic, on the next Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner. Scream your insights in the House of Pain (i.e. the comments section), as we live-stream on Facebook, this Friday evening at 7:00 EST!

  • Sean Connery Untouchable Highlander King

    Sean Connery Untouchable Highlander King

He was untouchable. Outlander and Highlander. The man who would be king.

Sean Connery died on Saturday at the age of 90. After the better part of a decade, during which he found his feet as an actor, the beloved screen icon achieved world fame as James Bond, a role he came to despise. He diversified, hit his groove as a superstar in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and eventually graduated into “mentor” roles.

He was honored with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work on “The Untouchables” in 1987. He was the recipient of three BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globes. And lest we forget, he was named People Magazine’s first ever “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989. The periodical doubled-down a decade later, upgrading his status to “Sexiest Man of the Century.”

There can be only one! Roy and I will discuss Connery’s remarkable career and output, on a special Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner. Share your favorite Connery memories during the Facebook livestream, this Friday night at 7:00 EST.

  • Sean Connery A Screen Legend Remembered

Sean Connery A Screen Legend Remembered

When Sean Connery died on Saturday at the age of 90, we were both shaken and stirred. At once, Roy and I decided tribute must me paid.

To this end, something a little different for this week’s show, as for the first time, we focus not on a specific film, but on the career and impact of a screen legend. Since we don’t have time to rewatch everything, this means we’ll be drawing on our fond memories and offering personal insights into our favorite, oft-viewed Connery films.

We’ll be looking for some of yours in the comments section, on the next Roy’s Tie-Dye Sci-Fi Corner. We’ll be riding with Raisuli, the man who would be king, and reminding you how to beat Capone, livestreamed on Facebook, this Friday evening at 7:00 EST.
