    Autumn arrives this morning at 10:21 EDT. But with temperatures on the East Coast in the mid-upper 80s, there will be no hot cider or diving into leaf piles quite yet.

    Instead, I hope you will join me in celebrating ALL of the seasons, with musical journeys around the year by composers of the likes of Morton Gould, Edward German, Lars-Erik Larssson, Albert Roussel, and Gian Francesco Malipiero.

    Speaking of the seasons, Chiu-Tze Lin, music director of the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, will drop by around 9:00 to talk about their upcoming season, which will begin at Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro on Sunday night. The concert, titled “Heroic Masterworks,” will feature music by Beethoven, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky.

    Autumn begins here on the East Coast at 10:21 tomorrow morning. The only thing is, somebody forgot to tell the weather.

    Since it’s supposed to be in the mid-to-upper 80s until the weekend, and since the leaves have scarcely even started to change, I figured I’d hold off on a no-holds-barred celebration of the season, if you don’t mind, for perhaps a month.

    That said, we can’t just let the equinox squeak by without some notice. Therefore, tomorrow morning on WPRB, I will honor my favorite season surreptitiously, careful also to praise its deserving brothers and sisters.

    To this end, I’ll be playing complete cycles of musical evocations of ALL the seasons – spring, summer, fall, and winter – by composers such as Edward German, Albert Roussel, Gian Francesco Malipiero, Lars-Erik Larsson, and Morton Gould, among others.

    ‘Tis the last rose of summer…

    The Autumn Equinox will transpire tomorrow morning at 10:21 EDT. Summer is dictating its last will and testament. Join me this afternoon to hear music by Felix Mendelssohn (his “Fantasy on ‘The Last Rose of Summer’”) and Wilhelm Stenhammar (his cycle of piano pieces, “Late-Summer Nights”).

    We’ll also honor Gustav Holst (1874-1934) on the anniversary of his birth. So get ready for plenty of English folksong, beside.

    We’ll bid adieu to the season, even as the weather continues to be obstinate, from 4 to 7 p.m., on WWFM – The Classical Network and at wwfm.org.

    Flutist Mimi Stillman’s Dolce Suono Ensemble will be the featured group on today’s Noontime Concert on WWFM. The program, titled “Court and Country,” took place at Philadelphia’s Old Pine St Presbyterian Church in April. The concert included works by Corelli, Handel, Rameau, Purcell, Vivaldi, and, of course, J.S. Bach, including four arias about love and betrayal sung by special guest artist, Allegra De Vita, mezzo-soprano.

    After the concert broadcast, I hope you’ll stick around, as among my featured highlights this afternoon will be music by Turkish composer Ulvi Cemal Erkin. Tune in today from 12 to 4 p.m. EDT, on WWFM – The Classical Network and at wwfm.org.

    It be the 19th o’ September – International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Join me this afternoon, won’t ye, for a dead man’s chest full o’ classical music bullion.

    There be a symphony by an English composer o’ the name o’ George Lloyd. Also a concerto fer violin an’ orchester by th’ Hungarian fiddler Jenő Hubay. Miecszylaw Weinberg ain’t a name that’s offen heard o’ th’ high seas, but we be hearin’ ‘im t’day. Furthermore, I’ve a mind t’ open up with a broadside o’ William Alwyn’s music fer “The Crimson Pirate.”
